The Kawarau River is an ideal location for your first white water experience! Enjoy a mixture of grade 2-3 white water rapids action and sitting back enjoying the spectacular scenery made famous by the Lord of The Rings movies.
The Kawarau River is ideal for first time rafters or suited to those looking for a more relaxed rafting experience, and groups of mixed abilities and ages.
The Kawarau River is famous for starring as the River Anduin in Lord of the Rings. The grandeur of the canyons imparts a feeling of paddling through the heart of Middle Earth. Take in this stunning scenery around you as you raft down the river. There’s plenty of white water action as you go through rapids graded between 2 - 3, but also time to sit back, relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery. Keep an eye on the other rafts though, as there’s a good chance of a water fight! Enjoy the unforgettable 400m long Dog Leg Rapid - New Zealand’s longest commercially rafted rapid.
