Things to do in Fiordland National Park

Fiordland is New Zealand's largest national park, and most of it is only reachable by boat, foot or air. Milford Sound gets the headlines, but Doubtful Sound, the Kepler Track and the lakes around Te Anau are just as rewarding.

Doubtful Sound cruises

Doubtful Sound is longer, quieter and harder to reach than Milford. The wilderness day cruise from Manapouri crosses Lake Manapouri first. Coming from further away? Choose the coach and cruise from Te Anau or the wilderness cruise from Queenstown. To spend the night, the overnight cruise with dinner for 2 is the one.

Fiordland helicopter flights

From the air you see how big Fiordland really is. Short on time? The 30 minute Te Anau flight is a good start. For more, the Dusky and Doubtful Sound helicopter flight covers the remote southern fiords, and the Milford Sound heli, cruise, heli trip departs Glenorchy.

Jet boats, glowworms and the Kepler Track

Down on the lakes, wilderness jet boating heads into the national park from Te Anau, and the Kepler jet boat and seaplane trip adds a flight. The Te Anau glowworm caves tour crosses the lake to a cave system.

Walkers can try the helicopter and Kepler Track hike or a guided Milford Track walk with cruise. See Milford Sound and Te Anau for more.
