Overflowing with the kind of dreamy scenery that New Zealand specialises in, this scenic helicopter flight takes in both Dusky Sound and Doubtful Sound, two of the most remote and spectacular fiords in New Zealand. Departing from the Te Anau lakefront helicopter pad or other locations by arrangement, you will begin your journey soaring over picturesque Lake Manapouri and above the Kilcoy mountains before descending into Dusky Sounds and landing at Mt Pender. Back in the air, you will continue along the 40 km-long Dusky Sound, dotted with over 350 small islands and accessible only by sea or air, flying over three more impressive fiords before descending into Crooked Arm in Doubtful Sound. enable you to fully experience the beauty and solitude of this special historic area.
Doubtful Sound, whose Maori name translates as the "Sound of Silence" because of the total serenity that blankets the Sound, is long, winding, and home to several stunning waterfalls. While flying up this fiord you will detour into a unique hanging valley known as Campbell’s Kingdom, complete with its own lake and waterfall. At this stage, you might want to pinch yourself. The return journey takes you aloft the Main Divide of the Southern Alps with a second landing at Mt Kidd, a remote alpine location with suitably dramatic views.
Minimum numbers - two person per flight - do apply subject to aircraft availability, but we will always do our best to combine bookings in order to accommodate our customers.
You can watch the aircraft take off however space in office is limited, there is a toilet available on site.
The pilots make a weather call each morning. Passengers are welcome to call the office for an update. If we have concerns regarding weather, we usually try and give booked passengers a call the day before to talk through options.
Sturdy shoes, pants, and a light jacket. Wearing warm layers is a good idea since it can be a little colder up in the mountains at our landing location but nice and warm inside the helicopter.
All our flights are shared with others. If you would prefer to book an exclusive flight, please let us know at the time of booking and we will confirm the cost with you. The number of passengers and weight will determine the most the suitable aircraft.
