Mix it up and combine a leisurely rail cart tour with an adventure packed jet boat ride on this full day tour. You'll drive your rail cart - more like four wheeled buggies - along the decommissioned Stratford-Okahukura railway as well as enjoy a heart racing jet boat ride on the Whanganui River.
Depending on what time session you choose (there's a morning and afternoon tour), your day will be split differently. If you choose the morning tour, your day will start with the rail cart tour. Ride along tracks that once transported stock and supplies, on your unique rail cart. A fantastic way to see the stunning landscapes of this part of NZ and learn the history of the Stratford-Okahukura railway, this tour goes at a moderate pace that allows you to choose when to slow down and take in the sights and when to speed up. You'll be blown away by the giant tunnels, some carved out by hand by workers who started construction in 1901.
Arrive in Tokirima to a tasty picnic lunch and refuel. You'll be able to relax and take in the surrounds before getting on the shuttle which takes you to the waiting jet boat at Ohinepane Landing for a thrilling yet informative ride that offers up picturesque scenery and the opportunity to spot native birdlife.
Alternatively, you can leave later in the day and take the afternoon tour which starts with the jet boat ride departing from Cherry Grove. Your lunch awaits at Tokirima, then you ride back on the rails to Taumarunui.
This is a full day experience, departing Taumarunui at either 7.30am and returning to approximately 3pm, or departing at 10:30am and returning at 5.30pm.
