Get out amongst it! Kayaking within this World Heritage listed area is an unbelievable experience. Gliding alongside massive vertical cliffs, take photos underneath rugged snow-capped peaks and admire the abundant rainforest while keeping a keen eye out for any wildlife.

Your awesome kayak guide will help you explore this spectacular fiord, paddling towards the majestic Mitre Peak. Spend between four and five hours kayaking to this incredible backdrop with a stop off on a secluded beach for lunch (weather permitting).

Your experienced guides are not just there for their good looks and charm, they also carry all the necessary group safety and equipment so you can just relax and have fun on the fiord. Before getting on the water, they will provide a full safety and paddling technique briefing.

If the afternoon breeze comes up you’ll be able to raft up the kayaks and sail back together!

This experience is fabulous no matter what the weather - if it’s teaming with rain, shrouded in mist or glistening in the sunshine – Milford Sound is one of most exceptional puddles to paddle in.

Session Length

  • This is a seasonal experience, available from 1st September to 30 April
  • From 1st September - 31 October, departs at 9.30am and returns at 3pm
  • From 1 November - 30 April, departs at 8.30am and returns at 3pm
  • There will be approximately 4-5 hours of kayaking


  • Minimum age is 16 years
  • Competence in water and moderate level of fitness required
  • No paddling experience is required


Once this experience has been confirmed, changes are at the discretion of the experience provider and arranged directly with them according to their policy.

Numbers on the Day

There will be a maximum of 8 people per guide, with up to 7 guides available.


In the event of rain or inclement weather, this experience will still go ahead unless contacted by the experience provider - if it’s teaming with rain, shrouded in mist or glistening in the sunshine – Milford Sound is one of most exceptional puddles to paddle in!

Dress Code

Please wear your swimsuit or kayaking underwear layer beneath warm clothes/waterproof jacket on pick-up (makes changing easier and quicker!). Carry the rest of your gear in a backpack or soft bag. Suitcases are not practical or appropriate.

Please phone the experience provider by 5pm the day prior to your departure to reconfirm all details, including pick up point and time. Please bring your own lunch, or pre-order with the experience provider for an additional cost, payable on the day. Hot drinks and a small snack are provided.
