Kayak and Penguin Evening Combo Tour

Discover a unique and inspiring day out in Pohatu, where you’ll be combining nature activities and wildlife encounters. Start with complimentary transfers from Akaroa to Pohatu Bay, with plenty of stops for photographs and onboard commentary on your journey. Arrive in the bay and get set up with all your kayaking equipment, before heading onto the pristine waters, led by your knowledgeable guide. Keep your eyes peeled for the incredible marine wildlife within the bay, such as the resident New Zealand fur seals, Hector’s dolphins that frequently visit the bay, Penguins on the rocks (in season) and many sea birds. In calm conditions, you may even enter deep sea caves!

Spend some time relaxing between activities, or explore the ancient forest tracks. You’ll have access to the communal kitchen and bathrooms, which you can use to shower and cook dinner before your evening tour component begins. You’ll head out on a conservation walk and talk, and monitor a couple of penguin nesting boxes giving you a good opportunity to see these little guys up close. Just before nightfall, you may get lucky and see some coming ashore under the hides. Your tour will then conclude with a return transfer to Akaroa after dark.
