Learn all about the Maori culture, traditions and history with a guided tour of Nga Hau e Wha Marae. You will be greeted with a traditional powhiri on arrival and conclude with an electrifying theatre-style cultural performance, hangi buffet feast and seafood platter.
A trip to Christchurch isn't complete without a visit to Nga Hau e Wha Marae (meeting place of the four winds), the only official national marae in New Zealand. Experience a traditional powhiri as you congregate onto the grounds before embarking on a guided tour. During the tour, you will learn about the history of the marae, the role it played in the devastating Christchurch earthquakes and hear some of the stories of their great ancestors. This history is all brought to life with an enthralling theatre-style performance and light show where you'll have the honour of experiencing the fierce and iconic haka. Afterwards, you'll be spoiled with an authentic hangi feast where dishes are cooked underground using hot stones, as well as a local seafood platter featuring crayfish, paul, kina and oysters.
Maximum 100 people.
