Revitalise your mind, body, and spirit at Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa. Nestled on the foreshore of Lake Rotorua, this luxury cultural wellness destination is owned by Ngati Whakaue and is built on their legacy of cultural traditions, healing practices, and manaakitanga (warm hospitality).

Your Journey will begin with a Maori prayer (karakia) to prepare your mind, body and soul for your transformative experience before entering the changing rooms.

  • Step 1: Walk through four sequential streams of water to energise the body.
  • Step 2: Enjoy a series of hot and cold, wet and dry experiences to invigorate body and soul. In Maori wellbeing practice, moving between extreme temperatures improves vigour and stamina.
  • Step 3: Soak up the healing properties of our geothermal waters, as well as herbal, hydrotherapy, mineral alkaline and cold plunge. With temperatures ranging from 12 to 41 degrees celsius, senses continue to be revatilised through the transformative effect of hot and cold experiences.
  • Step 4: Nourish your skin within our geothermal mud lounge. Self apply naturally occurring mud infused with indigenous plant and oil extracts before reclining on heated rock beds for the mud to set and work its magic.
  • Step 5: Final area to relax and reflect is the dark misty steam room with heated stone. Feel your skin become silky smooth and the transformation this wellness Journey has had on your mind, body and soul.

Your journey ends with a Maori prayer (karakia) before returning to the changing rooms.

Important information

This experience has a duration of 2 hours.

  • The Restorative Journey is restricted for 16 years of age and above
  • Young adults should bring along ID to prove age and avoid being turned away
  • Wheelchair hoist requirements into the pools and any other special support services is required at time of booking
  • Any medical conditions (e.g., hearing, sight, skin sensitivity, heart) or serious allergies to be advised at time of booking or 48 hours prior to your arrival. This will ensure we are able to cater to any special needs or requirements.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your session time
  • Members not participating in the Journey can wait in the reception lounge or cafe area.
  • For your comfort and safety, we are unable to accommodate guests who are pregnant in the Restorative Journey, due to the high temperatures experienced throughout the Journey
  • Bathing suits are required to be worn at all times during the Journey

    • Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
    • Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
    • Late arrivals or no-shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

    There is a a maximum of 16 people every 30 minutes from 9 am.

    Spectators are not able to enter the Restorative Journey. There is a cafe and reception area to wait, a nice boardwalk alongside the lake can be enjoyed, and the hot springs are at walking distance to Government Gardens, inner city and other recreational activities.

    Available all year round regardless of weather. The high roof shelters guests from rain and sun.

    Smart casual and comfortable clothes to change back into are recommended. Please bring your flip flops/crocks. Limited swimwear is available for purchase, please bring your own or purchase it prior to arriving at Wai Ariki Spa. Please remove all jewellery and leave it at your accommodation or remove it before starting the Journey.

    Low-speaking voices are required throughout the Journey to be mindful and considerate of other guests. Mobile phones are to be left in lockers and put on silent. If mobiles are taken on the Journey they must be silent. No calls are allowed to be taken during the Journey. Any filming or photography to only be of members of your party.

    This experience takes place within Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa located on the foreshore of Lake Rotorua. A multi-award winning architecturally designed building is visible from the lakefront and within walking distance from main inner city accommodation (e.g., Pullman, Novotel, IBIS), restaurants, cafes, Rotorua i-SITE and activities.

    Kia ora! I recently had the pleasure of visiting Wai Ariki, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. From the moment we arrived, the spa transported us from "just another spa experience" to something truly memorable. The whole idea of a journey throughout the spa made it feel like it had direction and purpose, not just relaxation but an invigorating experience that got me excited for what was next! A huge thank you for organising our visit. It's not just a spa; it's a journey, and we had a wonderful time! Highly recommend to anyone looking to elevate their spa experience.
