This self guided bike tour is perfect for biking enthusiasts and beginner riders alike. This tour takes you through the scenic Gibbston Valley, along the Gibbston River Trail, following the beautiful Kawarau River. Pass through vineyards and wineries along the trail, cruising along at your own pace. Beginning at Gibbston Valley Winery, explore the Gibbston River Trail, visiting wineries as you choose. Take in the stunning views of Central Otago landscapes, and pass by an historic, pre-1900 fruit orchard and huts left over from the goldrush period.

After your ride, relax and enjoy lunch with a delicious Gibbston Valley Harvest Platter for two, before a guided tour through New Zealand's largest wine cave, where you will get to taste current release wines.

On the Day

Session Length

  • Full and half day riding options available
  • Transfers from Queenstown depart at 10am, with return transfers at either 2pm or 5pm
  • Please allow either 4 hours (half day) or 7 hours (full day) for this experience
  • This experience is not available on Christmas Day, Easter Sunday, Anzac Day and public holidays

Numbers on the Day

This is a self guided bike tour for two, with private lunch reservation, however there may be up to 20 other people on your wine tasting tour.


  • In the event of rain or inclement weather your experience will still go ahead unless contacted by the experience provider
  • If your experience is cancelled you will be rescheduled by the provider

Dress Code

  • Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for outdoor use
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are recommended
