Experience all the gems of Hauraki from a unique perspective during this two day e-bike adventure. Cycle from Thames over verdant farmland, past the majestic Karangahake Gorge and through a 1100 metre tunnel to the gold mine town of Waihi. Lunch and accommodation in Paeroa included.
Stretch your legs for an epic two day adventure along the Hauraki Rail Trail from Thames to Waihi. Your tour begins along the old railway line out of Thames, through lush farmland and past small rural communities, with stunning panoramas of Hauraki Plains and forested Kaimai Ranges along the way. Recharge with a morning tea stop at the award-winning Matatoki Cheese Barn before continuing on to your first destination, the historic town of Paeroa. Home to the world famous Lemon and Paeroa drink and known as the 'antique' town of New Zealand, Paeroa is a lovely stopover and home for the night.
Day two sees you take on the most popular section of the Hauraki Rail Trail, where you will follow the Ohinemuri River through the magnificent Karangahake Gorge. This sharply winding canyon is characterised by the cascading Owharoa waterfall, photogenic gold mining sites, the eerie Windows Walkway, tranquil waterholes and so much more dotted throughout. A special highlight of the tour is the exciting journey through the 1100m Karangahake Tunnel - you'll need a flashlight! Enjoy lunch at The Falls Retreat then continue to Waihi, where you'll visit the Waihi Gold Discovery Centre. A shuttle will bring you back to Thames departing at 4pm.
