This self guided cycling tour of Hawke’s Bay wineries is a perfect balance of wine tasting, exercise and scenery. Collect your bikes in the morning and enjoy a leisurely pace, choose the wineries you wish to visit while soaking up the sun and enjoy the experience and surrounding countryside.
Based in the heart of the Hawke’s Bay wine region, start your cycle tour at Ash Ridge Wines. Here, you’ll collect your bike and helmet and route map, and receive a quick run down on the different wineries you can visit.
From here you can cycle to Sileni Estate, Alpha Domus, Abbey Cellars, Oak Estate, Trinity Hill and Te Awa. The route covers up to around 20km on the Hawke's Bay Cycle Trails and you can comfortably do it in around 4-6 hours depending on how long you stay for tasting wine at each winery. All the cycling is “off-road” using the purpose built cycle trails that run parallel with the roads. The terrain is flat and very easy cycling. Scenery includes vineyards, olive groves, horse studs, orchards and farmland.
During the day you will have access vehicle roadside support to help if you have any difficulties, such as a flat tyre, and to collect any wine that you purchase from the wineries you visit (summer only).
Please note that tasting fees are not included as you are able to choose which wineries you want to visit.
Summer: 20th October - 12 April
