Escape the hustle and bustle of Wellington and enjoy a relaxing scenic drive to the Wairarapa wine region. Just 90 short minutes and you will find yourself at the internationally acclaimed Wharekauhau Country Estate, where you will take a seat in their casual dining room for a multi-course degustation lunch. Their trust the chef tasting menu changes daily and is designed to showcase some of the region's finest local produce, paying particular homage to the natural systems at play - the pastures, streams, coastline, forests, gardens and orchards. Sit back, relax and sip on a glass of champagne as you savour the delightful flavours of Wairarapa.

To begin:

  • Organic cauliflower and sheep’s milk blue cheese soup, fennel seed and pecorino, pickled fennel root , truffle oil

The sea:

  • Line caught travelly, spiced tomato, compressed watermelon and salted cucumber, radish, coconut, coriander and black sesame seeds and bull kelp

The land:

  • Buckwheat and dashi risotto, crumbed sweetbreads, chicken skins, seaweed, green tea and miso foam, foraged herbs

For you to choose from:

  • Silver Fern Farm reserve beef eye fillet, mushroom ragout, beef fat potato, pumpkin, confit garlic, baby carrots, broccolini, café de paris butter, red wine jus
  • Te Mana lamb loin, braised shank, garden beetroot and Drunken nanny goats curd, golden beets, broad beans, toasted almond and tea soaked sultanas, carrot top salsa verde
  • Pan roasted line caught fish, manuka bark smoked Ora king potato hash, artichoke puree, burnt broccolini, broad beans, roasted carrots, wild rocket, jus

To finish:

Session Length

  • Please allow 2.5 hours for this experience
  • Available Friday, Saturday, Sunday for lunch only, and depending on the lodge availability. Not available from 15th December until 15th January yearly
  • Seatings start from 12 noon, with the last option for seating at 1:30pm


  • Please pre-advise of any dietary requirements or food allergies at the time of booking and the provider will do their best to cater for these requests
  • Participants must be 18 years or older to consume alcohol; ID may be required
  • If you are arriving via car please park in the carpark to the right of reception and make your way to the lodges front entrance where you will be welcomed. They ask that guests depart the property no later than 4pm, unless arranged prior with the lodge. If you have arranged a private driver please pre-advise the lodge of their name, contact details and time they are due to collect you form the lodge


  • Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
  • Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Dress Code

Please ensure your party are dressed in smart casual attire. The provider also ask guests to be conscious of their in-house guests that may be around the lodge during the dining experience.

Other Info

Please note the provider will cater for the number of people you have booked for. They cannot cater for a last minute person who show up with your party.
