As dusk settles over Rotoruaβs geothermal valley, youβll spend around two hours and 45 minutes enjoying a Maori cultural evening with a hangi buffet dinner, a 45 minute kapa haka performance and a twilight geyser walk.
Begin with a generous feast at Pataka Kai Restaurant, dining overlooking the steamy outdoor geothermal landscape as you sample traditionally cooked meats and vegetables, kai moana and sweet desserts. Next, step into the beautifully carved meeting house, Te Aronui a Rua, for an official pohiri welcome followed by waiata, moteatea, poi and a stirring haka. To round out the night, wander down to the geyser terrace for a close-up view of Pohutu Geyser, then enjoy a hot chocolate while you take in the natural geothermal warmth nearby.
