Tandem skydive in Taupō, over the lake and the volcanoes

Taupō is one of the best known places in New Zealand to jump out of a plane. The drop zone is about 10 minutes from town, and every skydive here is a tandem jump, strapped to a professional jump master, so no experience is needed. All three include a Hummer pick up within Taupō.

Choose your height

Start with the 12,000ft tandem skydive, with 45 seconds of freefall at up to 200km/h and views of Lake Taupō and the active volcanoes. Go higher with the 15,000ft tandem skydive for a full 60 seconds of freefall and coast to coast views of the North Island. It also includes transfers from Rotorua if you need them.

For the highest jump in Taupō, the 16,500ft tandem skydive starts with a 20 minute scenic flight, then up to 75 seconds of freefall. On a clear day you can see from Mount Maunganui to Taranaki, and the jump comes with a certificate of completion.

What to expect on the day

You'll sign a waiver on the day, so tell the provider about any medical conditions when you book. Wear warm, comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. Skydiving is weather dependent, and you won't jump in rain, cloud or high winds, so call the provider 30 minutes before your booking to confirm. Allow two to three hours in total.

Friends and family can watch for free from the ground viewing area. Skydives run every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
