Experience one of Queenstown’s most famous adventure activities with a whitewater rafting journey through the legendary Shotover River. Your trip begins with an unforgettable drive through Skippers Canyon — a narrow, winding road carved into sheer rock faces, offering thrilling drops and dramatic views before you even reach the river. It’s the perfect warm?up for the adrenaline to come. Once at the river, your guides will gear you up and run through a full safety briefing before you launch into the fast?moving waters of the Shotover. Known for its powerful Grade 3–5 rapids, this river delivers a mix of big waves, tight chutes, technical sections, and exhilarating drops — all set within one of the most spectacular canyon environments in the world. The rapids change with water levels, and your highly trained guides adapt the route to ensure a safe but exciting ride from start to finish.
Throughout the journey, you’ll navigate through steep, rocky canyon walls and sections of surging whitewater, building up to the grand finale: the famous 170?metre Oxenbridge Tunnel. Paddling through this dark, historic tunnel before bursting out into the daylight is a highlight for many adventurers. After returning to the Rafting Base, warm up with a hot shower. With big water, dramatic scenery, and expert guiding from start to finish, the Shotover River offers one of the most authentic, high?energy rafting experiences in New Zealand.

Please bring a towel and swimwear. Full wetsuit and rafting clothing will be provided.

This means that all food and beverage purchases aboard our vessels in Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Queenstown, and Te Anau, as well as at Walter Peak and the Manapouri Café, will no longer accept cash. We honour the purchase price of our experiences for 18 months. If you book your experience after this time and the price of the experience increases you can either pay the difference or exchange it for another experience free of charge.
