★★★★★ ★★★★★ Much better than rafting Anthony1972 3 May 2014 I had done rafting and found it alright, but I thought I would try something different. Sledging is much more fun than rafting (although the river rafting on this river was much more challenging than what I had ever done with a 7 metre waterfall to go over). I was fortunate to be on my own - just myself and the guide - so I can't comment on a group experience. She was really good and I had great confidence in her looking after me. I was challenged with various moves such as surfing on the river. The river was beautiful and seeing the river from in the water was a different perspective. The rapids were great and having a guide to show you the way over them is certainly the way to do it. It started from the bottom of the 7m waterfall (it was good watching rafts coming over it) which had an interesting Maori history. and . We followed the course. One surprise was how nice the water temperature was - I would recommend doing it here instead of Queenstown for this reason alone. I was impressed by the photos taken. Although expensive ($35 - although this seems normal for these type of attractions in NZ) I was impressed by how many were taken and the quality of the photos. The only negative was the facilities where the company was based. They didn't have change rooms or lockers - I wouldn't take any valuables. There were toilets to change in but these were small with large number of people having to change out of wet swimwear, I would have though there would be changerooms. When I was there, there was a group of girls who had done rafting who had to change in a small area outside the mens and womens toilets which I thought was awkward for them. Nonetheless a great experience and certainly worth doing.
