Your horse?trek adventure begins aboard the iconic TSS Earnslaw. Step onto this beautifully restored century?old steamship and enjoy a scenic cruise across Lake Whakatipu, taking in sweeping alpine views as you travel towards Walter Peak High Country Farm. The journey sets a relaxed, memorable tone, with plenty of time to enjoy the open decks, historic displays, and the unique charm of this living heritage vessel. Once you arrive at Walter Peak, your friendly guide will greet you and introduce you to your horse, carefully matched to suit first?time or novice riders. After a short briefing, you’ll set off on a gentle trek across rolling high?country farmland. The trail moves at an easy pace, making it ideal for beginners, families, or anyone wanting a comfortable outdoor adventure.
After returning to the stables, you’ll enjoy a delicious morning or afternoon tea at the Colonel’s Homestead Restaurant. Settle in with homemade treats, hot drinks, and time to relax inside the restored homestead or wander through the beautifully kept lakeside gardens. Your day concludes with a leisurely TSS Earnslaw cruise back to Queenstown, giving you one last chance to enjoy the mountain views and the gentle rhythm of this historic steamship. With a blend of soft adventure, stunning scenery, and classic Kiwi hospitality, the Walter Peak Horse Trek offers a memorable experience for riders of all ages and abilities.

In the event of rain or inclement weather your experience will still go ahead unless contacted by the experience provider. If your experience is cancelled you will be rescheduled by the provider.
Shoes/boots (non slip), warm clothing/jacket, long trousers recommended, sunscreen, sunglasses and a camera.
RealNZ is going cashless on all food and beverage purchases in experience. This means that all food and beverage purchases aboard our vessels in Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Queenstown, and Te Anau, as well as at Walter Peak and the Manapouri Café, will no longer accept cash. A cashless system will provide a smoother, more efficient experience for both our guests and staff. Our payment terminals accept all major credit cards and debit cards, including AMEX, WeChat Pay, AliPay and Union Pay, as well as contactless payment options like Apple Pay and Google Pay. Note: Fee of 1.5% applies to food and beverage purchases by credit card only. The fee does not apply to purchases in Retail Store at Walter Peak, or merchandise purchased from our Visitor Centres.

We honour the purchase price of our experiences for 18 months. If you book your experience after this time and the price of the experience increases you can either pay the difference or exchange it for another experience free of charge.
