A visit to a local olive oil mill is followed by two boutique vineyards, each offering a range of gourmet tastes to accompany their wines, such as succulent oysters straight from Te Matuku Bay, wild honey, the famous local green herb spread and a small cheese board. Enjoy a commentated scenic tour including local history from your experienced guide.
Be prepared for some awe inspiring scenery as you make your way around the island. Your guide will provide you with a wealth of knowledge about the scenery whilst you enjoy a stunning coastal panorama back to Auckland city, down the Hauraki Gulf and out to the Coromandel Peninsula.
Waiheke wineries offer boutique vineyards well known for their production of a Bordeaux style red as well as award winning Chardonnays and Syrahs.
At each picturesque vineyard you will be met by either the owner, winemaker or a knowledgable staff member, who will talk you through the winemaking process and offer you tastings of 2-6 wines. Guests often enjoy a walk through the vineyards and barrel rooms.
At the end of the three hour tour you will get to sit back and enjoy a delightful grazing platter at one of two world renowned vineyard restaurantâ??s, Mudbrick Vineyard or Stonyridge Vineyard. Both venues offer platters which showcase the finest of local produce including Te Matuku bay oysters (when in season), local New Zealand cheeses, meats and seafood. You will then be picked up and transported back in time for the afternoon ferry to Auckland.
