Experience one of New Zealand's best tandem skydives from a mind-boggling 16,500ft!

Your experience begins when you arrive at the base and meet with your jump master (aka new best friend!).

You'll view an instructional DVD as well as receive a comprehensive briefing. Then suit up with your jump gear and harness., then climb onboard the aircraft.

You will enjoy a 20 minute scenic flight to altitude over two national parks, snow-capped mountains, golden beaches and turquoise oceans - Paradise! From 16,500ft you can see Mt Taranaki in the North Island and Mt Cook in the South Island.

When its time for your jump, will you be nervous, excited or both? If this is your first time skydiving, then nothing can prepare you for the exhilaration and adrenalin you will feel in the moments before your jump. At altitude the door of the aircraft opens and the fun begins... you will experience 70+ seconds of freefall!

During your skydive, you will look out at the expanse of country stretching out beneath you and have a sensation of unparalleled freedom. You will reach speeds of 200km/h through the air! The parachute will be open and you'll gently float back down to earth for a smooth landing. You won't be able to wipe the grin from your face!

This experience is part of the Responsible range as it holds an Enviro-Gold award and is proudly certified carboNZero by Toitu – NZ's carbon zero organisation.

Important information

  • This experience is available all year round, excluding Christmas Day, by appointment only
  • Please allow between two and three hours for this experience
  • You will be freefalling for approximately 70 seconds during your skydive

Please note that bookings from April 1st 2026, will incur a $20 Per Person surcharge payable on the day of your booking. Surcharges will be collected directly at check-in, at the base

  • Children under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign for them on the day, however this experience is not recommended for children under 10 years of age
  • There is a maximum weight limit of 100kg
  • Please advise of any medical conditions you have at the time of booking
  • Please note that bookings from April 1st 2026, will incur a $20 Per Person surcharge payable on the day of your booking. Surcharges will be collected directly at check-in, at the base
  • Change your booking up to 24 hours before the start time of your experience
  • Changes are not permitted within 24 hours of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

The price quoted is for one person. You will be with your tandem master during the experience. There can be up to four passengers on each flight.

This experience may be affected by the weather. In the case of poor weather conditions your experience may be rescheduled for another date.

Casual and comfortable clothing is recommended. Please wear secure shoes (not boots) and a warm top. A jumpsuit, goggles, gloves and a helmet will be provided on the day.

You can purchase photos or video footage of your skydive for an additional fee. This is payable directly to the supplier on the day of your experience.

This experience departs fromm Motueka Airport. Complimentary return transfers are available between Nelson and Marahau.

Best day ever!

We had an absolute amazing time sky diving over the Abel Tasman near Nelson. All the staff at the airport were great. Thank you to our tandem instructors and camera men for making it an incredible experience. Thank you to red balloon staff for being so helpful and making it so easy too book. It really was an experience we will never forget!

Everything was very smooth and easy - the staff very friendly and helpful. The experience itself was just incredible but made so much more enjoyable simply due to the professionalism and helpfulness of the staff. Such an amazing experience!
