Enjoy rapids, waves and the beautiful Kawarau River on a sturdy, easy to hold, buoyant and manoeuvrable sledge. The sledge keeps you more on the surface of the water than the bodyboards so you still get all the action packed fun of the rapids, before as a relaxing float and an exciting cliff jump.

Light snacks and refreshments

Sledge nine kilometres of New Zealands most exciting river water, including seven kilometres of grade 2-3 white water, on special, river-purpose and remarkably sturdy board that is buoyant and easy to manoeuvre. An action-packed white water adventure for true water lovers. You will start the trip in a secret calm eddy where will be given an introduction to the basic sledging techniques. Here you must perform the minimum skills required to undertake the adventure.

After that, you will head to the main flow, where you will need to hold on tight and feel the power of the river as adrenaline kicks in. Ride fast-flowing rapids, blast through waves, spin on giant whirlpools and try wicked rock jumps on your way down the river. You'll then finish the trip with a relaxing float in the pristine water of the Kawarau River and take time to appreciate the magnificent scenery. Sledging is ideal for those who want the riverboarding experience but are lacking in confidence.

This experience is four and a half hours in duration
Available daily from 11 am, except on Christmas day
This experience operates from September to May

Guidelines

Everyone must be able to swim, be confident in the water and reasonably fit
The minimum age for Sledging is 13 years of age

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
Full refund will be given providing notice of cancellation is received at least 48 hours of the trip departure.

Numbers on the Day

We reserve the right to cancel or amend any trip due to insufficient numbers or client unsuitability.

Spectators

Spectators are welcome for an additional cost, which includes the admission price for Goldfields Mining Centre.

Weather

Riverboarding is a serious river sport and adventure activity. Strict safety procedures are observed, however as the operator we cannot absolutely guarantee participant safety. Serious Fun Riverboarding cannot be held responsible for personal injury or for equipment lost or damaged. Participants are required to demonstrate confidence in water and basic swimming skills.
