Ruakuri Cave is New Zealand’s longest guided underground walking tour and an experience that has to be seen to be believed. The sheer majesty of nature will leave you awe struck as you tour through this cave offering a captivating blend of Waitomo’s most compelling subterranean experiences, a spectacular spiral entrance, limestone formations and crystal tapestries.

Session Length

Please allow 2 hours for this experience
Approximately 90 minutes is spent underground
Available every day except Christmas Day
Tours run between 10am and 3.30pm daily
Tours: additional tours may be available during our summer season

Guidelines

Your own transport is required - the Ruakuri Cave is located a further 10-minute drive from the Waitomo Glowworm Cave Visitors Center
Photography and video are permitted in selected areas of the cave

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
Late arrivals may result in you forfeiting your experience
No Shows will result in forfeiture of experience with no refund

Numbers on the Day

There is a strict maximum of 16 people per tour.

Dress Code

Bring comfortable walking shoes and a warm jacket.

Red balloon was so easy to use when at the Waitomo Glow caves . The vaves were so beautiful a once in a lifetime experience. Great tour guide, friendly staff around.

Great trip

The trip was great however we very nearly missed it as we walked from our hotel to the address stated on the tickets 585 waitomo caves road. Upon arriving 30 mins before our trip I was told that we were in the wrong place and actually were only 4 minutes away from our hotel. Luckily she rebooked is in for the 2 slots of the day and then we had to race back. This made my dad who is visiting unwel from the rushing around. I advise that you change the address for the caves on the ticket as the couple behind me also missed their tour as they did the same as us.

The Waitomo Caves themselves are a wondrous natural attraction but the staff were friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. A very good experience for young and old, conducted at a nice, relaxed pace
