Spend the day on Rangitoto Island, Auckland's iconic volcano, just a 25-minute ferry ride from the city. Your return ferry is included. Choose your own adventure: walk through lava fields and native forest to the summit for panoramic views, and explore the lava caves along the way.
Rangitoto Island is a short ferry ride from downtown Auckland and one of the city's most recognisable landmarks, its symmetrical volcanic cone rising 260 metres above the Hauraki Gulf. After a 25-minute ferry ride, spend the day exploring at your own pace. The most popular walk is the Summit Track, which winds through lava fields and native forest to the peak, with panoramic views across the Hauraki Gulf to Auckland. Allow 2 to 3 hours for the return walk. Along the way, you can detour into the island's lava caves. Bring a torch, as the caves can be dark. A great day trip for keen hikers visiting Auckland.
