Get out of the city and out to Auckland's West Coast on this full day eco tour. Explore Muriwai Beach and the gannet colony before a delicious winery lunch and wine tasting in Kumeu.
Famous for its black sand and surfing paradise, Muriwai Beach stretches 60km along Auckland’s West Coast and includes a Gannet colony - the most accessible way to view the gannets from Auckland.
Commencing with pick ups from either Auckland CBD or Auckland Airport, this tour will journey through the scenic Waitakere Ranges, Kumeu Wine Trail and the strawberry farms of Auckland’s west. Enjoy stops over the scenic lookouts at Muriwai Beach and the Gannet colony.
An easy hike will take you to the lookouts over the gannet colonies, along with a second hike from the cove at the beginning of the beach.
Spend an hour at the beach for a swim or just relax and enjoy the stunning views across the black sand.
Then, head to one of Kumeu’s oldest wineries for lunch and wine tastings, with a chance to see the vineyard and capture some amazing photos before being returned to the Auckland CBD or airport.
Please note: The gannets nesting season is from August until March, you might find some off season too but it’s not 100% guaranteed.
