Visit some of New Zealand's most stunning and panoramic regions that were used as Lord of the Rings filming locations, on a tour perfect for anyone who loves both LOTR and the thrills of off road adventures!
A Queenstown adventure safari packed with breathtaking Lord Of The Rings filming locations and thrilling 4WD action. Our guides will rediscover the magic of Tolkien’s Middle-earth and bring it to life with rare facts and thrilling tales. On this great escapade, we will visit filming locations such as the Misty Mountains, the Pillars of the Kings (Argonath)and many more. Furthermore, we will follow a historic gold mining road and take the opportunity to plunder gold. Take in all of this while taking seeing the spectacular panoramic views of the Queenstown area.
The perfect tour for those that want the thrills of an off-road adventure but also want to discover exciting Lord of the Rings filming locations. The Queenstown tour takes you to see The Remarkables, which were used as various mountains throughout the three movies including the Misty Mountains. Travelling part way up Queenstown hill you get a birds-eye view onto Deer Park Heights, which was used for the refugees of Rohan and the Battle of the Wargs scenes. Travelling from The Queenstown hill viewpoint we head to the Kawarau Gorge where the filming took place for the Argonath, or Pillars of the Kings.
Leaving the Kawarau Gorge the trip heads to Arrowtown where the loss of The One Ring at Gladden Fields was shot. Near Arrowtown, you will experience a true off-road adventure. Following a historic gold mining road up the Arrow River, you will cross the river many times to get to the Ford of Bruinen. At this point, you can indulge in morning or afternoon tea and try your hand at a spot of gold panning. From Arrowtown, you will travel to the entrance of Skippers Canyon where you will be offered spectacular panoramic views of Queenstown and into Skippers Canyon.

That’s 10% of the Australian population! When we started ‘doing’ experiences in 2001, Facebook didn’t exist; the iPod had just been invented; John Howard was Prime Minister; and Destiny's Child were popular (yikes!). We’ve been at this business of experiences for quite a while, so put your trust in us to show you a good time.
The RedBalloon Price Guarantee does not apply to experiences involving accommodation or Experience Providers' own conditional sales.
