Located by Opononi beach and against a backdrop of stunning sand dunes and sea, this cultural centre sets the perfect stage to learn about the legendary story of Kupe and his arrival to Aotearoa's shores. Your guided tour, led by Kupe's descendants, gives you an understanding of Maori customs and protocols and allows you to engage with storytelling, waiata (song) and karakia (prayers), ending in a powhiri (welcome ceremony). Following the tour, you'll take a seat for a 4D movie and live theatre performance, bringing to life his voyage and the dramatic return journey of his descendants. From the theatre, you'll be led outside to soak in the splendour of Hokianga harbour and Kupe's story.
