Raft down a grade 2 river for an exciting day to on the water. The Waiau River changes quickly – one moment you can be drifting down calm, serene waters and then the next you’re rafting through rough and rocky rapids. And it’s all set to an idyllic backdrop of stunning mountains and marble land formations.

You experienced guides will ensure that everyone enjoys this rafting adventure - no experience is required, just a sense of adventure and a willingness to get amongst it.

The rafts can hold up to 10 people including the guide, so this is perfect for families and groups.

Important information

  • Please allow two hours for your rafting trip
  • The minimum age for rafting is 6 years, and all rafters must be able to fit safety equipment
  • Adult: 14 years +
  • Child: 6-13 years
  • Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
  • Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Each raft can hold up to 10 people.

Rafting is subject to weather and river conditions.

Please bring swimwear, a change of clothes and a towel, and sunscreen is recommended.

For transport from Christchurch to Hanmer Springs and return, take the Hanmer Connection Shuttle Bus (ph 0800 242 663). For guests staying in Hanmer Springs, a complimentary return shuttle is available. This service is available from your accommodation to the jump facilities.

This experience takes place in Hanmer Springs, 90 minutes drive north of Christchurch.

Such a great experience!

Our coworkers surprised us with this voucher and at first we thought it was just jet boating. We were a bit nervous getting geared up knowing it was going to be a bit more hands on but it was so much better than we could’ve asked for! Then we got picked up by the jet boat on the way back up so we got the best of both activities! Would do it again in a heart beat. Shout out to the team, especially Tanaia who was an amazing raft guide! Hope to see you guys again in the future :)
