Take the reigns and enjoy a picturesque horse ride through the stunning backcountry only 20 minutes from Christchurch city. Meander along woodland areas and verdant grasslands, and cross the clear blue waters of the Waimakariri River (river permitting), with gorgeous scenery on offer all year round.
Gallivant through breathtaking scenery on horseback during this two-hour horse trail just 20 minutes north of Christchurch. Once settled onto your horse, you'll follow your guide out to the backcountry and ride along a diverse range of terrain, including luscious woodland areas and open green spaces. You'll then head along the riverbed before crossing the cool, blue waters of the Waimakariri River, often the highlight of the ride for many. Along the way, you'll have the chance to meet some friendly Fantail birds up close and personal, as they are very curious and sometimes come right close to the riders. Photo opportunities are aplenty during the ride, with a gorgeous backdrop on offer in all seasons, including snow-peaked mountains in the winter. Your riding ability sets the tone for the ride, and if there are beginners in the group, you'll be split into groups so that everyone can ride safely.

Please wear comfortable long trousers (shorts and three-quarter pants are not recommended), sturdy covered in shoes and other clothing suitable for the conditions.
