The Rainbow Warrior is 40m long and in 27m of water. She is the smallest of three Northland shipwrecks and although all of them carry a rich history, the Rainbow Warrior’s history is surrounded in intrigue, mystery, and international espionage. One of the world’s most premier dive sites.

Dear to the heart of all New Zealander’s, the Rainbow Warrior was Greenpeace's flagship. It was on its way to protest France's nuclear testing on the Mururoa Atoll when it was sunk by French saboteurs on July 10, 1985, in Auckland Harbour.

After the bombing Greenpeace gifted the Rainbow Warrior to the sea and her home is now in the Cavalli Islands as an artificial reef and refuge for the marine life which she was sunk trying to protect.

At a maximum depth of 27m, the Rainbow Warrior is now home to a huge variety of aquatic life and is a world renowned dive site.

The Rainbow Warrior is one of the world's premier wreck dives, and truly is the 'Jewel of the North' giving life to the phrase, "When man has destroyed the world through his greed, the Warriors of the Rainbow will arise to save it again".

Departs at approximately 9am and returns at approximately 4pm

Guidelines

You must be a certified diver to dive the wreck
Please bring your own lunch
If you have not dived within the last 12 months you will need to contact us about a refresher course.

Cancellation

Change your booking up to 16 days before the start time of your experience
Changes are not permitted within 60 hours of your experience
Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Dress Code

Please bing your swimsuit, towel, sun block, camera and something warm to wear after diving.

Other Info

The Rainbow Warrior lies in water deeper than 18m/60ft. As such, any divers who wish to dive this wreck must be a certified diver with an advanced diving certification and also medically fit. Proof of certification will be required.
