Wilderness Whitewater Rafting on Te Awa Kairangi - Grade 3

Highlights

  • Whitewater rafting wilderness adventure along the Te Awa Kairangi (Hutt River)
  • Exciting rapids and beautiful native bush
  • Take a break half way down the river to enjoy refreshments and snacks

With over 50 rapids to attempt, not to mention the abundance of rock jumps, you'll find the adventure you're looking for on this whitewater rafting trip along the Grade 3 section of Te Awa Kairangi. Just 45 minutes from Wellington city, this 10 km river trip will add some exhilaration to your day.

What's Included?

  • Guided whitewater rafting tour, Grade 3 rapids
  • Lunch and hot drink
  • Transport to and from collection point

Raft your way down the mighty Te Awa Kairangi/Hutt River gorge, surrounded by a 1000-year-old podocarp forest with exotic flora and fauna to witness at every turn. Starting at Kaitoke Regional Park, you'll be transported down the 10km of Grade 3 rapids by experienced guides who will make sure you're looked after and kept entertained with their cheesy jokes. Halfway down the river, you will stop to enjoy light refreshments on a secluded gravel beach where you'll be able to sip from spectacular cascading waterfalls and learn more about the wilderness in Wellington's backyard. And in the colder months, we'll help keep you warm with a hot drink. Jam-packed full of rapids, this epic rafting adventure is a must-do experience and a great way to bond with family and friends.

Numbers on the Day

The minimum number of clients per trip is four; please contact us if you have fewer individuals to book as we may be able to add you to a booking. Please contact us regarding bookings for large groups to ensure availability.

Spectators

Spectators can farewell and welcome travellers at the beginning and end of the trip, but no viewing is available during the river trip.

Weather

The river flow is dependent on rainfall, so previous weather may influence the trip. In the event that the river flow is too low, we will be unable to raft. Additionally, we cannot run river trips if the river flow is too high. We will let you know if the conditions on the day are not suitable. We run river tours all year round (even during winter rain!) - you'll be warm in our river gear regardless of the weather.

Dress Code

We provide all the river gear to keep you warm and safe on the river, however you will need to bring a towel and something to wear under your wetsuit. We do not recommend wearing cotton items as these will keep you cold when they get wet.
