Fly from Tauranga by helicopter to White Island, New Zealand’s most active volcano. Witness the geothermal activity from above before landing on the island for a truly magical experience with vents, craters, mud pools and mining ruins. A once in a lifetime opportunity!
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to land and walk on the crater of New Zealand’s most active volcano.
Departing Tauranga, take a scenic flight out to White Island. Located 52 kilometres off the Bay of Plenty coastline, White Island is a link in a chain of volcanoes called the Pacific Ring of Fire.
This continuously active volcano, with sulphur-lipped fumaroles, active volcanic vents, steaming crater lake, bubbling mud pools, hot streams and desolate mining ruins combined creates a surreal experience. You will feel like you are walking on a different planet. It was also once home to factory workers who mined the Island for sulphur. Ruined remains of this hard life still exist today.
From above you will witness the rugged, unspoilt coastline of this volcanic island, viewing moon-like surfaces, steaming craters, flocks of sea birds and sulphur-yellow landscapes
