Amazing helicopter experience to view the abundant wildlife Kaikoura has to offer. Fly out to the Kaikoura Whale Sanctuary to view whale and dolphin species. Your experienced pilot expertly positions the helicopter for amazing photo and viewing opportunities.

What's Included?

  • Helicopter flight to view wildlife and scenery
  • Informative pre-flight talk from the pilot
  • In-flight commentary by professional and experienced pilots
  • Complimentary transfers to and from township if required

This whale watching flight is an introductory trip allowing you to enjoy the many marine wonders that the Kaikoura area has to offer.

Focusing on the mighty sperm whales that are prevalent in the area year round, your pilot will be able to position you for that perfect photo by slowly orbiting around the whale in a way only a helicopter can. See the whale in its entirety from tip to tail, and take in some of NZ's most beautiful coastal shores.

During your experience you will be taken on a journey above one of New Zealand’s most unique areas, due to the special underwater geography of the area, it enables a huge abundance of food to be produced due to a large upwelling and mixing of both warm and cold currents. The food produced here supports a very diverse variety of marine life including many types of whales that migrate through the area such as Humpback, Southern Right, Blue, and of course the resident Sperm Whales, the worlds largest toothed Whale.

During your trip there is also a chance to see the incredibly playful Dusky Dolphins and New Zealand Fur Seals which also call the sanctuary home.

The unique perspective of the region by helicopter also allows you to view the beautiful coastline and the spectacular seaward Kaikoura mountains rising out of the ocean to over 2500 meters.

This is New Zealand’s only fully Department of Conservation permitted operator offering whale watching experiences by helicopter and pilots are trained to the highest standard with specific training relating to New Zealand’s alpine and oceanic environments.
