Step back in time and travel along the 'Forgotten Railway' in a self driven buggy. You'll be blown away by the stunning natural landscapes that form the backdrop of your journey as well as the tales your guide will regale you with about it's construction way back in 1901. Stop at Tokirima for lunch.
Travel through breaktakingly beautiful countryside on the now decommissioned Stratford-Okahukura railway and take a step back in time. Your guide will lead your group on self driven buggies from Okahukura to Whangamomona, gliding along tracks that once carried trains that transported stock and supplies. Your guide will teach you about the history of the railway and it's almost 30 year construction, starting in 1901.
You'll take in stunning views and travel through more than 24 tunnels. You'll also pass through the depleted settlements of Matiere and Ohura, see the stunning Tangarakau Gorge and get to stretch your legs and have a wonder in the Republic of Whangamomona; a rural town with heaps of character and their own President! Getting home is easy as; you'll jump in a shuttle bus and be driven back to a depot at Taumaruni along the iconic Forgotten Highway.

Warm layers are recommended as the tunnels can be quite cool in spring and autumn.
It's recommended to bring a camera. You may also wish to bring extra water, snacks and some money should you wish to purchase anything from the local artisans along the way.
