Explore the flagship trail of the Remutaka Cycle Trail by mountain bike and discover the rich rail history and natural beauty of the Remutaka Ranges.
You will be picked up from Wellington Train Station at 9.30am and shuttled to either Te Marua (for a 27-37km, slightly more challenging ride) or Kaitoke (for an 18-28km easy ride). You’ll be fitted with a mountain bike and helmet, adjusted to your height and riding preferences.
Start your adventure with a very gradual incline through native bush. Pass through tunnels (headlights provided!) and over bridges, while checking out the information boards which tell the story of the enormous task constructing the old fell railway system.
Reach the summit of the trail - a large grassy plateau perfect for a picnic and drink from your provided lunch - then enjoy a fun and easy descent to Cross Creek in the Wairarapa, surrounded by some of NZ's most scenic farmland.
You can either wait for the shuttle home at Cross Creek, or continue biking 10km to Featherston, and be picked up at The Royal Hotel before heading back to Wellington Station.
Please wear casual, comfortable clothing with suitable footwear.
