The Routeburn Track is considered to be one of the best walking tracks in the world. Rated highly by the National Geographic and Lonely Planet, this track is one of the most popular in New Zealand.

The Routeburn Track is 32km, located in the heart of one of New Zealand's remote South Island close to Queenstown. Become immersed in nature and surrounded by the diverse scenery of mountains, moss-covered forests.

Spend your first day exploring stunning Queenstown, with an afternoon pre-trek briefing. One night's accommodation prior to, and after, the track is included.

Day 2 begins with coach pick up to the start of the Routeburn Track, at Mount Aspiring National Park. Your trekking begins with a 2.5 to 4 hour walk to your first night of Track accommodation at Routeburn Falls Hut, situated by the Routeburn Waterfall.

On day 3 your walk heads up over Harris Saddle, with an optional side track to views of the Tasman Sea. The descent follows the Hollyford Valley mountain through alpine vegetation, down into a magical feeling forest of moss and lichen. Reach your night's accommodation at Machenzie Hut, situated by a picturesque lake. Allow between 4.5 to 6 hours walking.

Day 4 take in the final day of stunning scenery as you realise what you have achieved in the last few days. After walking 3 hours, you can choose between the Milford Sound track option or the Divide track option to take you to the meeting point for the coach back to Queenstown.

Dress Code

  • Please dress warmly - temperatures can vary in this region. Expect warm sunny days to cold alpine conditions. Typically high rainfall occurs
  • Wear sturdy, comfortable hiking shoes or boots that have been worn in, to help with comfort on your hike

  • Accommodation is at 4-star Copthorne Resort, and is valid for both the pre- and post- walk
  • All huts along the track are communal bunk rooms

The Routeburn Track is over changing terrain. You can expect anything from warm sunny days through to cold alpine conditions. The surfaces of the track vary from well trodden, to areas of rough terrain (e.g. over rock and tree roots)
