Spend the full day out on the Hauraki Gulf catching the sea breeze with marine mammal researcher Olive Andrews. Learn about the oceanography of the Gulf, its history and the biology of the marine life as you sail the azure waters, with opportunities to snorkel, swim and stand up paddle board.
Affectionately known as the seabird capital of New Zealand, the Hauraki Gulf also plays home to a host of other marine animals including dolphins, orca, fin whales and pygmy blue whales. Learn all about this marine haven on a full day sailing trip with marine mammal researcher, ocean policy expert and polar guide, Olive Andrews. Departing Waiheke Island, you'll hit the ocean seas in a spectacular 41-foot catamaran discovering the fascinating oceanography of the gulf, its natural history and the biology of the wonderful marine life. You'll hear how the Hauraki Gulf is a critical habitat of high conservation significance, as well as visit the gannet colony on Horuhoru Rock, home to 2500 nesting pairs and one of five such sites in the country. Experience the underwater soundscape via a hydrophone, and enjoy a stop at a secluded bay for a refreshing swim, snorkel or stand-up paddle board.
