Why You'll Love This

What's Included?

  • Full day winery tour
  • Vineyard platter lunch overlooking the vines

The day starts by visiting two wineries on the West Coast (ex Auckland) where you’ll get the chance to taste wine made from grapes grown locally and in NZ’s other premium wine regions, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Marlborough & Central Otago. You'll find world famous fresh, zingy Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, sometimes Albarino, Arneis, Gruener Veltliner and Gewurztraminer with reds including Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah, and sometimes Pinotage, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Often 'Sparkling' & 'Dessert' wines are available too.

In between wineries visit the famous "Takapu" sea-bird colony at Muriwai, a wild black sand beach on the Tasman Sea. Drive (approx’ 50 mins) across the country to the East Coast's Matakana region in time for lunch and tastings at a small, family owned, winery. Then your guide will select 2 more Matakana’s wineries to visit. It's a small area rapidly developing a big reputation for ismall, family owned boutique wineries. Discover some excellent wines full of NZ’s famous freshness, flavour and varietal character.

Chardonnay & Pinot Gris are 2 of Matakana’s specialities. One winery has won the 'Best NZ Merlot' award, beating all the favourites from Hawke's Bay! There is also Albarino, Carmenere, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Syrah (Shiraz) to try. Another is exploiting the region’s suitability for Italian grapes with Sangiovese & Dolcetto. Your guide is the most experienced wine tour guide in the area and will go into as much, or as little, detail as you like about the different wine styles available and wine making techniques used in NZ.

A great chance to stock up on your favourite wines, and discover something new, at genuine cellar door prices.
