Departing from Taumarunui, you will take a short shuttle bus to the start of the Okahukura-Stratford line. Board your Rail Cart on the 20 tunnel tour and hear stories of the land, its people and history from your guide. Get right into the thick of it as you meander over bridges and through hand-built brick tunnels, including the longest tunnel at 1.5km and through the Tangarakau Gorge. Savour morning and afternoon tea at the historic settlements of Matiere and Tangarakau, and a delicious ploughman's lunch at Tokirima. Round out the day exploring the Republic of Whangamomona, where you'll enjoy dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.

After breakfast, be wowed by spectacular views of the Whanganui National Park from the clouds during a scenic helicopter flight. Soar over rolling hills and valleys before touching down in the Mangaparua Valley for a 2.5km walk to the iconic Bridge to Nowhere. Continue wandering the Park another 2.5km straight for the Whanganui River where you'll board your jet boat. Feel your adrenaline surge as you zoom down the river, hearing the stories of the people who lived in these remote parts and exploring a number of historical and cultural sights including Tamatea's Cave and Tarei Po Kiore Whirlpool.
