Tall Ship Sailing Adventure Adult

Code: RTT191

Ever wanted to sail onboard a tall ship? Become part of the crew for a day and help set sails, climb the rigging, ride the bowsprit or simply relax and let our friendly crew look after you! Enjoy the stunning scenery around the beautiful Bay of Islands on board a tall ship.

This sailing adventure on a tall ship has crossed oceans and sailed around the world and is not to be missed. She has a unique history and our aim is to ensure that those who come sailing with us, whether on a day sail or across an ocean, become friends for life.

Our Tall Ship departs from Russell Wharf at 10am (Paihia connection at 9.30am). Shortly after departure, we serve morning tea; freshly baked scones in our galley, served with jam, cream with coffee and/or tea of your choice. Help the crew set the sails and get involved with the sailing experience. Alternatively, if you just want to relax, watch while others do the work!

We head towards a sheltered bay for lunch and anchor around midday. The crew will take you to the shore to explore or you can swim ashore or swing from the 'Tucker Bungy' – a rope from the yardarm. A delicious BBQ lunch is served on board (vegetarian options are available) featuring seasoned chicken breast, mesculin salad and french bread. We also have a licensed cash bar serving New Zealand beers and local Northland wine.

In the afternoon, we set sail and enjoy the afternoon sea breezes to take us back to Russell at around 4pm. There are plenty of opportunities to climb the rigging, head out on the bowsprit and ride the waves or take the helm and steer the ship. Our friendly crew have harnesses and will show you the ropes – literally!

The ship has sailed 145,000 nautical miles, carried 67,500 passengers, 797 sail trainees, visited 61 ports and crossed 7 oceans. Make sure you join the crew and experience this unique sailing journey!

We would say that it is a laid back experience with the opportunity to participate in the running of the ship. Good food and good opportunities to see a beautiful island area. We would also encourage them to visit as much else in the area as possible to learn about the history.
