The price for this five-day fully supported cycle tour includes twin share accommodation, breakfast and dinner while on the tour and plenty of stunning scenery! The fantastic browns, golds and reds of the Central Otago landscape will amaze you. Our support vehicle accompanies us so you don't have to worry about carrying luggage and can be assured of help in case of bad weather or emergency.

Here is a basic rundown of your Otago Central Rail Cycle Tour:

Day One - cycle 30-40km.

Meet in Christchurch at approximately 7.30am, check bikes and equipment and load trailer. Cycle along the Tekapo Canals before driving into Clyde. Spend the evening in the old goldmining town of Clyde and enjoy your first dinner with the group.

Day Two - cycle 36km.

The real riding starts today. Cycle to Chatto Creek and along to Omakau for lunch. Cycle to Lauder where we spend the evening. Before dinner we enjoy a side trip to St Bathans and the Blue Lake.

Day Three - cycle 56km.

Head inland to the Idaburn Valley and continue on through Oturehua. Travel to the art deco township of Ranfurly for lunch then onto Waipiata. Spend the night in the beautiful Naseby, where you have the option to try the sport of curling at the local indoor rink!

Day Four - cycle 51km.

Cycle to Taieri Gorge and enjoy lunch in Hyde. End the trail in Middlemarch with a celebratory drink. Join the famous Taieri Express for a spectacular ride through the gorge and end the evening with a group celebration in Dunedin.

Day Five - cycle 24-40km.

Head north to Oamaru and visit the famous Moeraki Boulders via beautiful coastal roads. Stop for a final lunch break at a historic warehouse quarter. Cross the Canterbury Plains and arrive back in Christchurch in the late afternoon.

Session Length

Cycle tours are available from October - April ONLY. We set off at approximately 7.30am on day one (Monday) and return at approximately 5.30pm on day five (Friday). Tour start dates are listed below.

Guidelines:

If you wish to bring children they must be 10 years of age or older. You should be active as we will be cycling up to 56km in a day. You need to provide us with your height if you are renting a bike from us - bicycle hire is $150pp.

Numbers:

The price quoted is for one person and is based on twin share accommodation. Single supplements are available for an extra $319, payable to the supplier. Tours operate with a minimum of four and a maximum of 12 participants.

Spectators:

Not suitable for spectators.

Weather:

Tours run in most weather conditions. In the case of poor weather your tour may be altered. Our support vehicle is available at all times. If your tour is cancelled due to extreme weather conditions it will be rescheduled.
