This is an opportunity to explore the NZ Wilderness by plane, foot and Jet Boat and encounter the many different aspects of the Southern Alps and Mt Aspiring National Park. The scenic flight allows views of rugged mountains, glaciers, river valleys, forest and waterfalls. See the unspoilt beauty!

Enjoy four hours of unique wilderness adventure in Mt Aspiring World Heritage National Park in the lower South Island by air, land and water. You will experience:

- Scenic Aeroplane Flight (25 minutes of outstanding views) and landing in the mountains in the Siberia Valley

- Walk for 3 hours in river valleys and native beech forest

- Jet-Boating for 30 minutes, a uniquely scenic river safari back to Makarora.

On arrival at your departure destination you will meet your pilot who will give you all the information you need and answer any questions you might have. The first part of your experience begins by climbing aboard a Cessna 185 aeroplane. This is a high performance aircraft especially designed to operate in these regions. This part of your adventure ends with a landing in the middle of the mountains in the spectacular setting of the Siberia Valley.

From here you will set off on an unguided 3 hour walk through river valleys and native beech forest. There are many photo opportunities to take advantage of while exploring this area along with sightings of native fantail and other birds if you move quietly. The track is easily defined and links the Siberia Valley to the Wilkin Valley.

The jet boat will be waiting for you to arrive at Wilkin Valley to whisk you back to Makarora on a 30 minute ride through this picturesque New Zealand wilderness. Pilots and drivers will entertain you with information on the history of the area, pointing out significant landscape features and sharing their local knowledge with you as you enjoy an encounter with nature by air, land and water.

Venue:

Makarora - 45 minutes from Wanaka or 2.5 hours from Franz Josef Glacier on State Highway 6.

Session Length

The experience takes approximately 4 hours from take off to return. We operate by request but generally on the hour from 8am every day of the year excluding Christmas Day.

Guidelines:

This experience is suitable for all age groups with average fitness levels. You must be able to walk for 2-3 hours. We encourage people from all ages to participate.

Numbers:

We operate with a maximum of ten people in the group.

Weather:

This is a weather dependent activity. You will be required to phone for a weather check before departing from your accommodation on the morning of the activity. If the weather is unsuitable, the tour can be re-scheduled.
